About Institute: National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur

The National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur (NIT Jamshedpur), is an Institute of National Importance located at Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, India. Established as a Regional Institute of Technology on 15 August 1960, it was upgraded to National Institute of Technology(NIT) on 27 December 2002 with the status of a Deemed University. It is one of the 32 NITs in India, and as such is directly under the control of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). It is the third in the chain of 8 NITs established as a part of the Second Five Year Plan (1956–61) by the Government of India.
History: National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur was founded as the Regional Institute of Technology in 1960 by Dr. Srikrishna Sinha, the then Chief Minister of the state of Bihar (unpartitioned). The date of 15 August, Independence Day in India, was chosen for the laying of the foundation stone. It was among the first eight Regional Engineering Colleges (RECs) established as part of the Second Five-Year Plan (1956–1961). It now serves as the NIT for the newly carved state of Jharkhand, while NIT Patna serves as the NIT for the state of Bihar.

The training and placement cell of NIT Jamshedpur works round the clock to find good career opportunities for students. The placement session of 2019 concluded with 776 students getting placed in various companies. The total number of offers made by top companies was 667. NIT Jamshedpur MME emerged as the branch with the maximum number of job offers, 89 per cent students of this branch got placed in different companies. The Training & Placement Cell, NIT Jamshedpur facilitates the process of placement of students passing out from the Institute besides collaborating with leading organizations and institutes in setting up of internship and training program of students. The office liaises with various industrial establishments, corporate houses etc which conduct campus interviews and select graduate and post-graduate students from all disciplines. The Training & Placement Cell provides the infra-structural facilities to conduct group discussions, tests and interviews besides catering to other logistics. The Office interacts with many industries in the country, of which nearly 100+ companies visit the campus for holding campus interviews. The industries which approach the institute come under the purview of:Core Engineering industries IT & IT enabled services, ,Manufacturing Industries Consultancy Firms, Finance Companies, Management Organisations, R & D laboratories.
The placement season runs through the course of the year commencing the last week of July through to June. Pre-Placement Talks are also conducted in this regard as per mutual convenience. Job offers, dates of interviews, selection of candidates etc. are announced through the Training & Placement Cell. The Placement Office is assisted by a committee comprising representatives of students from the under-graduate and post-graduate engineering streams.
