Production Engineering Branch of NIT JAMSHEDPUR - NITJSR ( National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur)
Production and Industrial Engineering is a very good branch. You get ample of time for your personal development apart from academics. There is a minimal pressure when it comes to course work.
The branch opens up a lot of opportunities at the end of four years:
2. Core field - If your dream was Mechanical Engineering but you ended up in this branch due to your lower rank and your ultimate goal is to work for mechanical based profile, then you can work your way in that direction and fulfill your motto.
However, let me first tell you that this branch was taken from a sub discipline of mechanical and its own core subjects are very good. Generally people are unaware of this. It has subjects like quality control, supply chain management, manufacturing engineering. Keep in mind that almost all the companies have dedicated departments of these fields.
Companies like Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, Honda, etc have students of our branch.
Although, it is true that this branch doesn’t has as much companies as that for mechanical branch. But it is not less. You can try offcampus too.
As already said in few answers this branch is a blend of technical and management skills. Google Dabbawala and read about it, you will get to know more and beware you may fall in love with this branch. (Sorry, I don’t know but I may be biased at this point.)
Industrial Engineering basically deals with optimization and may involve coding. Like how many goods you need to order, how many beds are required in the hospital, etc.
3. IT Sector- If coding is your thing, then companies like, Capgemini, Wipro, etc will serve the purpose.
4. Competitive exams like GRE/GATE/ESE etc. - Appear for any of these exams. You can fill GATE/ESE from mechanical too.
5. Higher studies (MBA/M.Tech/Direct PhD/MS) - You must have heard about MBA. M.Tech and PhD will serve the hunger for knowledge. Government has launched various scholarship schemes for direct PhD and the amount of scholarship is not less than any job.
Production Engineering Branch of NIT JAMSHEDPUR - NITJSR ( National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur)
6. Film making/Graphic Designing/Acting/Youtubing/Stand-Up Comdey/Content Writing- Well Well Well these kind of career paths don’t require an engineering degree. As engineering is versatile in nature, students opt these fields too. This section has a separate fan base and in today’s world, these paths are rewarding too.
7. Startup / Business - You can work on your idea and make it big.
These are only overview. You can anytime dive deeper.
NIT Jamshedpur is overall a very good college and you can enjoy the facilities as any other branch. It has amazing hostels(beautiful hostels), good sports facilities (TT, basketball, football, etc), various clubs(to help you develop and polish your technical as well management skills), a canteen(need to discuss something over a cup of coffee?), internet(basic necessity), average academics(some of the teachers are good and rest you will have to do on your own), well maintained library, cultural and techno-management fests(Culfest and Ojass). Placements are good. As of 2019, average package of PIE is 6.65 lpa. Lastly, a college or any branch is defined by its students.
Overall, you will never regret this and will enjoy your life here.

The branch opens up a lot of opportunities at the end of four years:
- Data Analysis - It is one of the most popular fields to get into, no matter which branch you are from. All the good companies like Mu-Sigma, Exl, Tredence, Futures First will have someone from our branch. You can do online courses to develop your skill in this field.
2. Core field - If your dream was Mechanical Engineering but you ended up in this branch due to your lower rank and your ultimate goal is to work for mechanical based profile, then you can work your way in that direction and fulfill your motto.
