The placements of 2019–20 session is currently going on. I think that asking for the placement statistics for the previous session i.e. 2018–19.
Well to be honest, the overall placements have been better than the preceding year. This year the overall ranking of NIT JAMSHEDPUR in terms of placement among 31 NIT's is 7. So you can pretty much guess about the placement statistics.
Branchwise placements:
This year saw a hike in placement of the Metallurgy branch with 98% students get placed. The average package lies in the range of 6–8 lpa. CSE, ECE and EE branches also have similar placement records with almost 92% students getting placed, moreover the average package is about 10lpa. The Mechanical and Production branch has quite better placement records than many NIT's as well as IIT's thanks to TATA group of companies. This year also there was almost 90% placement in both branches with an average package of 7 lpa. The striking feature of these 2 branches is that more than 80% students get placed in core companies. Finally, I will be telling you about Civil branch. Like every year, this year also the placement statistics is quite low as compared to the other branches. This year saw 50% placement in Civil branch with only a few students getting placed in core companies.
But I would like to say a few words before concluding this answer. The placement statistics for Civil Engineering is almost same in every colleges, be it NIT or IIT. So don't worry and just work hard for government jobs cause hard work always pays!!
