New Delhi: The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are discussing a pattern change for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced this year after receiving several requests from various stakeholders, including states, to make the exam easier in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, ThePrint has learnt.

JEE Advanced is held for admission to the 23 IITs across the country. The responsibility of conducting the exam lies with one of the IITs every year, and IIT Delhi is in charge this year.

The matters pertaining to changing the exam pattern and possible reduction of syllabus will be taken up for discussion at the IITs in their next Joint Admission Board (JAB) meeting to be held later this week.

An HRD ministry official, who did not wish to be named, told ThePrint that a final decision on the exam pattern will only be taken after the JAB meeting.

In the last JAB meeting called on Friday, IITs decided to do away with the mandatory criterion of 75 per cent marks in Class 12.

This year, the candidates who have qualified for JEE Advanced will be able to seek admission in IITs, irrespective of the marks they score in Class 12.
